Brazil to resume beef exports to US

The Brazilian government has announced that six meat-packing firms have been authorised to resume beef exports to the US, following recent inspection tours by US agricultural officials. Three Brazilian laboratories would responsible for product quality control.

Brazilian beef exports to the US were earlier suspended due to a need for adjustments in sanitary clauses in the export-import agreement between the two countries.

Brazil exported industrialised beef worth US$197 million to the US in 2004, according to official statistics.
