Indonesia's corn harvest rebounds 19.8% in May as cumulative output tracks near year-ago levels through August

Harvested area and production gains provide some relief for the poultry feed sector, though June-August output potential is forecast slightly below the same period in 2025.
Indonesia's shelled corn production rose 19.8% year-on-year to 1.18 million tonnes in May 2026, with harvested area expanding 22% to 210,000 hectares, according to Statistics Indonesia (BPS), signalling a mid-year recovery in domestic corn supply for the feed and food industries.
The May improvement comes after a period of tighter supply that has added cost pressure to the poultry feed sector. A larger domestic corn supply is expected to ease some of that pressure and support feed cost management for broiler and layer producers.
Looking ahead to June-August 2026, BPS estimates potential harvested area of 720,000 hectares with production of approximately 4.23 million tonnes of dried shelled corn. Both figures are marginally below the same period in 2025, with harvested area down 2.36% and production down 4.39%, indicating the May recovery has not fully reversed the broader seasonal output trend.
On a cumulative basis through August 2026, national corn performance is close to flat year-on-year. Harvested area is estimated at approximately 1.97 million hectares, down 0.49%, while cumulative production of 11.43 million tonnes is marginally higher than the prior year by 0.02%.
Weather conditions, land productivity and the efficiency of distribution from production centres to feed manufacturing and consumption areas remain the key variables determining whether the projected output figures are realised.
