Beyond Meat expands in mainland China through Alibaba Freshippo stores
Beyond Meat will launch retail sales of its plant-based alternative beef burger patties in Alibaba Group Holding's Freshippo stores at Shanghai, Beijing and Hangzhou, Reuters reported.
The product will be sold from July 4 at 50 Freshippo stores in Shanghai, and to 48 stores in Beijing and Hangzhou from September. It can also be purchased through Freshippo's mobile app for delivery.
In June 2020, Yum China Holdings sold Beyond Meat burgers at select KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell restaurants in the country.
Other major plant-based alternative meat producers such as Impossible Foods are also looking to enter the lucrative China market.
