Better Origin launches AI-poweredinsect farm converting waste to feed
Cambridge-based Better Origin has launched the X1, a fully automated AI powered insect mini-farm that converts waste into high quality animal feed, Business Cloud UK reported.
The X1 can convert "ugly" fruits and vegetables, agricultural residues and industrial food waste into insect larvae animal feed to boost welfare, productivity and yield.
The machine uses AI along with patented engineering processes to reproduce the insects' role in a food cycle. Farmers will be able to use an app to control the X1 any time.
Fotis Fotiadis, CEO and co-founder of Better Origin said insects naturally convert waste into nutrients for animals and humans, but this link is nonexistent in a modern food chain. He said Better Origin's X1 brings insects back into the modern food chain.
A pilot X1 project on Wood Farm,Cambridgeshire earlier this year proved successful. Charles Mear, owner of Wood Farm said the X1 project fits well with the farm's goal to produce carbon-neutral free-range eggs.
Better Origin is planning to expand the X1 for use in aquaculture salmon farms and the pet food industry.
