EU agri-food exports up 3.7% in April; milk powder considerably down

 

 

The value of EU agri-food exports in April rose 3.7% compared with the same month last year, but import value decreased 2%, resulting in the monthly agri-food trade surplus rising to €1.5 billion, a 66% increase over April 2017.

 

According to the latest monthly trade report of the European Commission, milk powder exports decreased most in value terms (down €54 million), while the highest export growth was achieved in raw hides and skins (€93 million).

 

The highest increases in monthly export values (April 2018 compared with April 2017) were recorded for the US (up €64 million), Japan (€59 million), Algeria (€40 million) and Switzerland (€37 million), while exports fell most to Saudi Arabia (down €92 million), Turkey (€71 million) and the UAE (€38 million).

 

For imports, bovine meat, among others, saw the biggest increases in value terms, while significant decreases were recorded in imports that included oilcakes and palm oil.

 

The value of April EU agri-food imports compared with April 2017 increased most for imports coming from Ivory Coast (up €50 million), Chile (€42 million) and Tunisia (up €37 million). The value of imports from Ukraine, Indonesia, Australia and Paraguay went down most, with decreases of €110 million, €74 million, €71 million and €67 million, respectively.
