BioMar completes acquisition of Chilean fish feed facility

Danish aquaculture feed maker BioMar Group now fully owns the Chilean factory Alitec Pargua after it has acquired the 50% shares of AquaChile, with which it had formed a joint venture to operate the fish-feed facility.

The acquisition, which took effect in early June, follows the change in ownership of AquaChile, which was acquired last summer by the Agrosuper group. The Alitec Pargua transaction ends 10 years of successful collaboration with AquaChile.

"Beyond this operation, BioMar Chile continues the commercial relationship with AquaChile", BioMar Group said.

BioMar said the acquisition wa an important step for its Chile operations as the company "will get access to a significant volume of flexible production capacity", adding the investment has reinforced the company's commitment to Chilean aquaculture.

"We have during the last years experienced an increasing demand in the market targeting our high-performance feed, functional products and services. We will now have more flexible capacity to meet those demands and we will now be able to plan for future upgrades and expansions of the facility in line with the requirement in the market", said Carlos Diaz, CEO in BioMar Group.

BioMar is a leading supplier of high-performance feed to the global aquaculture industry. Currently, it operates 14 feed factories and is currently building another two. The factories are located at Norway, Chile, Denmark, Scotland, Spain, France, Greece, Turkey, China, Costa Rica, Ecuador and, soon, in Australia.
