Russia expects EU to lift grain import cap
The EU is expected to lift the existing quota of 1 million tonnes on Russian grain imports following a European grain deficit from a recent drought.
The Russian grain industry has estimated that the country could export 4 million tonnes of grain to Europe if the current quota was lifted. An industry spokesman expects that at least 2 million tonnes of feed wheat may be exported.
Russia's total grain export potential in 2006 is reportedly between 8-9 million tonnes.
