US DDGS sales benefit from Egypt's growing fish industry
The US is exporting more DDGS to Egypt, which is building more fish farms, the US Grains Council (USGC) said.
Egypt currently harvests over one million tonnes of fish, up from 200,000 tonnes in 1981, the council said.
This change is partly due to the expansion of privately owned fish farms. As a result, more feed ingredients, including DDGS, will be needed as more fish farms are constructed, USGC said.
Joe Trade Company, a local feedmill, currently produces about 35,000 tonnes of extruded and pelletised fish feed annually. The US ingredients currently used by the company include corn gluten feed; corn gluten meal; yellow corn; DDGS; and soymeal, said chairman Youssef M. El-Sharkawy.
The council has been actively engaged in increasing the percentage of US DDGS in fish feed produced at the plant, said Dr. Hussein Soliman, USGC director in Egypt.
The aquaculture industry in Egypt is 65-70 percent privately owned, said El-Sharkawy.
