Canada eyes 40-percent growth in grain exports to Saudi Arabia
Canada is eager to boost grain exports to Saudi Arabia by 40 percent this year, according to Trade Minister Stockwell Day.
There will be growth in Canadian grain exports to Saudi Arabia this year, but the percentage is unclear and it is hoped that it would hit 40 percent, said Day.
Most of the exports would be barley, the minister.
Last year, Canada exported US$225 million worth of barley to Saudi Arabia. Grains make up 22 percent of total Canadian exports to Saudi Arabia, said Day.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia is in talks with several countries such as Sudan, Egypt, Ukraine, Pakistan and Turkey to allow Saudi companies to establish projects to help supply it with food grains such as wheat, barley, soy and rice.
