The USDA is downgrading California's bovine tuberculosis status from "Accredited Free" to "Modified Accredited Advance" on view that the disease have been found in three dairy herds.
 

Originally there was only one infected herd, but now two more dairy herds in Fresno County were found to carry the disease as well.

USDA will downgrade the status if two affected herds are found within 48 months. It will also impose additional testing requirements on California's cattle industry when exporting animals out of the state.

All cattle processed for meat are inspected for signs of tuberculosis infection and they would be rejected for consumption if symptoms of the disease were found.
