Thailand joins newly-formed ASEAN Shrimp Alliance

Thailand's Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives announced it is joining the ASEAN Shrimp Alliance to promote sustainable shrimp trading

The ASEAN Shrimp Alliance is formed by shrimp producers and traders from Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Philippines and its latest member, Thailand.

It aims to achieve ASEAN-wide quality standards and a certification system.

The alliance also hopes to win recognition among consumers and buyers while strengthening the price of ASEAN products on the world market.

There would also be governmental involvement in the alliance, said Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan.

The first meeting of the Alliance involved the study of technical cooperation, trade and industry agreements within the framework of the Alliance.
