Hong Kong selects Uni-China Farming Management to build city's first multi-storey pig farm in Sheung Shui

The pilot project, financed and operated by the private sector on a government-provided site, forms part of Hong Kong's Blueprint for Sustainable Development of Agriculture and Fisheries.
Hong Kong's Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) has selected Uni-China Farming Management (HK) Limited to construct and operate the city's first multi-storey, modernised pig farm on a site in Sheung Shui, with site formation works expected to be completed within 2026.
The AFCD invited applications for the project on 30 May 2025, with the application period closing on 1 December 2025 and attracting two submissions. An assessment panel evaluated the proposals on 5 May 2026 against three criteria: experience in intensive pig farming, financial viability, and technical capability. Uni-China Farming Management was selected and invited to submit a detailed implementation proposal. The facility will be financed and operated by the company, with the government providing the site.
The planned facility is designed as an enclosed, vertically integrated livestock building incorporating automated systems and modern management practices. The enclosed structure is intended to improve biosecurity, waste management and emissions control while maximising land use efficiency in a densely populated territory.
AFCD Director Mickey Lai said the project reflects the government's commitment to modernising local livestock production and improving the long-term sustainability of Hong Kong's agricultural sector.
