Netherlands' pork exports to China doubled in value in January-April 2020

Dutch pork exports to China have more than doubled in value to €334 million (US$376 million) during January to April this year.

According to a CBS report, the growth is attributed to African swine fever which has killed a significant number of swine herds in China. To make up for supply, China has to bring in more pork from outside the country.

Pork contributes to the growth of export of other Dutch products to China, rising by €500 million (US$563 million) to €3.5 billion (US$3.9 billion) in January-April 2020. This is 16% up on the same period in 2019.
