CJ Cheiljadang US$1.8 billion in sales in 2017
 

 

CJ Group has realised the ambition of its chairman, Lee Jay-Hyun, to become the "World best CJ" as CJ Cheiljedang ended 2017 with annual sales topping KRW2 trillion (US$1.8 billion).

 

The company was supported the sales of its green bio products including lysine, tryptophan, hexane and barine, which perform exceptionally well in such global markets as methionine and threonine. The latter markets are as large as KRW4 trillion (US$3.6 billon) and KRW1 trillion (US$892.2 million), respectively. in annual sales.


CJ has been expanding its threonine plant in Iowa, US, to add another production line for the product with an investment of $50 million. Its Malaysian plant will also be expanded to produce 80,000 tonnes of threonine by next year.


When these expansion projects are completed, CJ Cheiljedang's amino acid production capacity will be boosted to become the largest in the world, bringing Lee's ambitious plan closer to fruition.


The four kinds of amino acids that the company produces are vital to humans and animals. They are mixed with animal feeds and fed to hogs and chickens in particular to benefit their growth and meat development.


CJ Cheiljedang has been a dominant producer of amino acids in the past 10 years. Its global network of the bio business units include supply bases in Indonesia, China, Brazil, the US and Malaysia.


The company helps farmers to improve profits through the integration of excellent breeding stock, feed production, breeding management, processing and distribution.


In addition, CJ CheilJedang has focused on the continuous expansion of its worldwide production bases and cost competitiveness by improving its R&D capability and productivity, while strengthening sales and technical marketing reach to global customers. As a result, it has become the only company with a diverse portfolio, including amino acids for food and seven fermented amino acid products for feed.


CJ CheilJedang in Indonesia has 3.57 million breeding stock in six factories and 42 breeding grounds in Cerang, Jombang, Medan, Lampung, Sumarang and Kalimantan, and supplies around 300 million chicks annually through its chicken business.
In Vietnam, the company opened a factory in Long An in 2001, followed by other factories in Húng Yen, Vinh Long and Dong Nai.


CJ CheilJedang also completed the construction of factories in Ha Nam and Bình Dinh in 2017. These developments are connected to a joint venture of feed and breeding businesses involving shrimp, fish and hog farms.
