Omega Protein set to process shrimp hulls
Houston-based fishoil producer Omega Protein has announced that it will build a shrimp hull processing plant at its Moss Point, Mississippi, facility.
Shrimp hull raw material will be provided at no cost by local processors, who will be able to process their product at the facility free of charge, rather than paying disposal fees to third-party landfills.
Construction on the project will begin later this year and is expected to be completed in 2011.
Joe Rosenberg, chairman of the board and CEO of Omega Protein, said that this project helps to provide an environmentally friendly solution for Mississippi's shrimp processors.
The project will provide significant benefits for Mississippi Gulf Coast communities and illustrates how two industries can both benefit when working together cooperatively, Rosenburg noted.
