Marfrig to construct US$77.39 million pork facility
Brazilian meatpacker Marfrig Alimentos will construct a new R$150 million (US$77.39 million) pork facility in the midwestern state of Mato Grosso, reported local daily O Estado de S. Paulo Friday (June 26).
The unit will have capacity for up to 3,000 head a day and is expected to be completed in 2010.
Marfrig also produces pork in the southern states of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.
Earlier this week, Marfrig closed a deal to buy Doux Frangosul's turkey assets for R$ 65 million. The transaction marks the company's debut in the turkey business.
