More than two million hogs slaughtered in Argentina during January-April 2022
2.37 million head of hogs were slaughtered in Argentina between January and April this year while a record hog production is projected for this year.
The Rosario Stock Exchange estimated that, from May to December 2022, slaughter will reach 5.17 million head, with a total slaughter of 7.53 million head in 2022.
Annual increases in pork consumption underpin and stimulate slaughter levels. Half of Argentina's hog slaughter is concentrated in the province of Buenos Aires, with about 51% of production. This is followed by Santa Fe and Córdoba with 19% and 16%, respectively.
The remaining 14% is distributed among the other provinces of the country, with Entre Ríos leading, which historically accounts for 4% of the national hog slaughter.
