According to Argentina's National Health and Food Quality Service (SENASA), the country exported 152,080 tonnes of seafood from January to May 2014, up slightly by 1% compared to 150,538 tonnes in the same period of 2013.
In the first five months of this year, Argentina's exports of shrimp (Pleoticus muelleri) made the biggest gain, soaring 72.2% to 22,164 tonnes.
In the same period, the country's shellfish exports rose by 11.8% to 65,821 tonnes, while shipments of Patagonian anchovy (Engraulis anchoita) grew by 2% to 4,955 tonnes.
However, Argentina exported only 86,259 tonnes of fish, a drop of 6% on-year; while exports of hake (Merluccius hubbsi) decreased by 2.9% to 42,456 tonnes, and squid exports fell by 7.8% to 38,909 tonnes.
