Amlan introduces MD09 moisture manager for wet poultry droppings

Amlan International, a developer of natural disease management solutions, has introduced the MD09 feed additive which helps to reduce wet droppings from poultry livestock.

Consisting of a unique particle blend of high absorbent material, MD09 is a natural feed additive, developed to combat the threat of wet droppings and improve animal welfare, house environment and production performance, by providing optimal water absorbency in poultry digestive systems, thus solidifying loose stool. It is to be applied in poultry rations at 3-5kg/tonne.

Wet droppings in poultry is a common problem that contribute to bacterial growth and high ammonia levels, leading to increased respiratory problems, breast blisters, soiled feathers, footpad lesions, dirty eggs, attraction of flies and other insect problems. Such issues have a negative impact on house environment and can be costly to operational efficiency.

A study, based in Life Science Dynamics, Inc (Minnesota, US), has been conducted to determine the MD-09's effectiveness of controlling moisture in poultry droppings. Results showed that broilers, fed diets containing the feed additive, released normal droppings even after they are given excess dietary salt to induce moisture.
