Hainan, China port clears first export of Japan-bound live cobia fingerlings

China's Hainan Free Trade Port has just cleared a shipment of Japan-bound live cobia fingerlings, the first export of its kind since Hainan launched island-wide special customs operations.
The shipment of 100,000 fingerlings is valued at over US$500,000. Upon completing immigration checks, workers loaded the live fish from breeding cages onto a Japanese carrier at Lingshui port.
Cobia is one of Hainan's leading tropical aquaculture species known for its high nutritional value. To meet increasing demand, local companies have improved breeding technologies to boost output.
