Vietnam exported an estimated 1.8 million tonnes of cassava and cassava-based products worth US$613.7 million in the first five months of 2026, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, with export value rising 2% year-on-year despite a 9.8% decline in volume.
Average export prices reached approximately US$342 per tonne over the January-May period, up 13.1% year-on-year, reflecting stronger international market prices. China remained the dominant export destination, accounting for 92.3% of cassava exports in the first four months of 2026, with export value to China rising 10.6%. Malaysia and Taiwan each held market shares of around 1.4%, with export values to those markets up 68.9% and 4.6% respectively.
Vietnam had approximately 517,000 hectares of cassava cultivation at the end of 2025, producing 10.5 million tonnes annually. A government resolution effective June 2026 to June 2028 will pilot E10 biofuel adoption and develop raw material zones for biofuel production, creating a new domestic demand channel for cassava. Under the country's long-term strategy, around 85% of cassava output is to be directed toward value-added processing including starch, ethanol, monosodium glutamate and other industrial products.
