Agreement to set up aquafeed production in Duqm, Oman

The Special Economic Zone at Duqm, Oman (SEZAD), has signed an agreement with Blue Feeds Company, a joint venture between United Fish and Seapride, to establish the first aquafeed production unit in Duqm on an area of 20,000sqm.
The deal was signed by Ahmed bin Ali Akaak, acting chief executive officer of SEZAD and Mohammed Ameen, executive director of Blue Feeds Company.
The US$20 million project will be set up in the Fisheries and Food Industries Zone located near the multi-purpose fishing port in SEZAD, with a production capacity of 60,000 tonnes of shrimp and fish feed for the project's first phase. There will also be an option for expansion in the future.
The project supports Oman's efforts to achieve food security by maximising yield from the sultanate's rich fish wealth, localising the value-added chain of fish products and producing fishmeal and oil.
