Indonesia President Prabowo Subianto credits deregulation, reforms for record crop gains

President Prabowo Subianto has attributed the record-breaking 50 % rise in national rice and corn production to the sweeping drive for deregulation and the unwavering crackdown on corruption.
Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025 in Russia on June 20, President Prabowo described the 50 % increase as the largest in the nation's history.
"In the first seven months of my administration, rice and corn production rose by approximately 50 % -- marking the highest increase in Indonesia's history -- with rice reserves reaching 4.4 million tonnes, an all-time record," he said via his media team.
He attributed this achievement to his administration's decision to streamline development by eliminating obstructive regulations.
Prabowo also stressed that the fight against corruption remains a top priority for his government.
"These efforts are being carried out through deregulation -- removing barriers -- and firm action against corruption," he said.
The President expressed confidence that Indonesia is poised to take on a greater role in global affairs, citing its membership in BRICS and the New Development Bank.
"I believe Indonesia can contribute positively to international relations, particularly through BRICS and the New Development Bank, where our country was swiftly welcomed with the support of Russia, China, and South Africa," he said.
