Nearly 200 ASF cases in 18 Vietnamese provinces, cities in less than a month

There had been 196 African swine fever (ASF) outbreaks in 59 districts of 18 provinces and cities in Vietnam in less than 21 days, according to the country's Department of Animal Health.

The number of infected pigs was 10,544, and the number of dead and destroyed pigs was 10,612.

In Lang Son alone, there were 55 outbreaks of ASF in 53 communes of 10 to 11 districts and cities, causing 2,374 pigs to fall sick and be culled (accounting for more than 13.7% of the total number of pigs culled due to ASF nationwide since the start of 2024).

In Bac Kan, the province had 81 ASF outbreaks in 77 communes of eight districts, with 4,724 pigs sick and be culled (accounting for more than 54% of the total number of pigs destroyed).

In addition to the above two localities, a number of provinces and cities also have a large number of infected and culled pigs such as Quang Ninh and Hoa Binh.

The Department of Animal Health will establish working groups to inspect and encourage the prevention of ASF.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will also organise a conference to firmly deploy ASF prevention and control measures.
