Ukraine's 2012 grain crop may reach up to 50 million tonnes
This year, the grain yield of Ukraine may reach between 45 and 50 million tonnes, declared Deputy Agrarian Policy and Food Minister Nikolai Bezugly at a briefing on Wednesday (June 20).
The ministry previously forecast that the country would harvest 47.2 million to 56.7 million tonnes of grain this year.
The ministry expects the southern parts of the country to harvest up to two tonnes of grain per hectare.
Bezugly said this refers to the southern part of Crimea, as well as parts of the Kherson, Mykolaiv, Odessa and Zaporizhiya regions, which had "extremely unfavourable conditions" for grain production.
