Russia's United Grain Company is main wheat exporter to Egypt

United Grain Company, Russia's new state-controlled grain operator, is expected to become the main wheat exporter to Egypt, the Russian Economic Development Ministry said Thursday (June 25).

United Grain Company will carry out direct deliveries of Russian wheat to Egypt. In the past, wheat was exported by Russian traders via foreign intermediaries.

United Grain Company plans to export 3 million tonnes a year of Russian wheat to Egyptian buyers, which is a major portion of Russia's total wheat exports to Egypt. Russian wheat exports to Egypt in July 2008-May 2009 totalled 4.7 million tonnes.

United Grain Company will control major elevator and port facilities. It will also be in control of the intervention grain purchased by the government from Russian farmers.
