Indonesia's broiler farmers in Lampung squeezed as feed prices rise Rp10,000 per sack in a month

Feed prices in Pesawaran Regency have risen from around Rp430,000 to Rp460,000 per sack, with some grades reaching Rp500,000, while farm-gate chicken prices have not risen proportionately.
Broiler chicken farmers in Pesawaran Regency, Lampung province, Indonesia, are facing rising production costs after feed prices increased by approximately Rp10,000 per sack over the past month, attributed to higher raw material costs across the market.
Feed prices in the area have risen from around Rp430,000 to approximately Rp460,000 per sack (approximately US$18.04), with some feed grades climbing from Rp400,000 to as high as Rp500,000 per sack (approximately US$19.61). Feed is cited as one of the largest cost components in broiler production.
Farm-gate broiler prices have not risen proportionately, currently ranging from Rp35,000 to Rp42,000 per bird (approximately US$1.37-1.65), leaving small-scale farmers with narrowing margins. Farmers have called for feed price stabilisation, warning that continued cost increases threaten the viability of small-scale broiler operations in the region.
