Ukraine grain harvest at 237,000 tonnes

Ukraine harvested 237,000 tonnes of grain to Monday (June 21) on 89,000 hectares of the planned total area of 12.045 million hectares, the agriculture ministry reported Wednesday (June 23).

Winter barley and wheat are being harvested in the country's southern regions with the average yield to date of 2.66 tonnes a hectare, which is 0.15 tonnes a hectare more than a year ago, the ministry said.

The agriculture ministry said earlier that Ukraine was likely to harvest this year 46 million to 47 million tonnes of grain, on a par with the 46 million tonnes harvested in 2009.

Ukraine's 2009 grain harvest fell to 46 million tonnes from 53.3 million tonnes in 2008.
