Initiatives span climate-resilient fisheries development, sustainable aquaculture expansion and marine stock assessment across multiple divisions.

Bangladesh is implementing 11 fisheries and aquaculture projects in the current fiscal year at a combined cost of Taka 1,875.32 crore (approximately US$155.8 million), Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid told Parliament on 21 June.

The projects cover fisheries development and aquatic biodiversity conservation across several regions, with climate change resilience cited as a key design consideration. Named initiatives include a Climate-Resilient Fisheries Resource Development Project in Rajshahi Division, a Sustainable Fisheries Resource Development Project in Mymensingh Division, and a Sustainable Aquaculture Expansion Project in the drought-prone Rangpur Division.

Additional projects include a Bangladesh Fisheries Resources Survey, a Community-Based Fisheries Resource Management Project in selected baors, and a Marine Fisheries Resources Survey and Stock Assessment initiative. Three community-focused projects target marginal fisheries populations in tea garden areas, the greater Cumilla and Noakhali regions, and haor wetland areas. Projects for sustainable management of native pangas and poa fish species and open water habitat restoration are also under way.
