Vietnam ships first ready-to-eat eggs to Japan after two years of product development

VFood's maiden shipment to one of the world's most demanding food safety markets opens a potential export channel for Vietnam's poultry egg sector, which is facing domestic oversupply.
Vietnam has made its first export of ready-to-eat poultry eggs to Japan, with the shipment facilitated by Vinh Thanh Dat Food (VFood) following nearly two years of collaborative product development with a Japanese partner.
The development process involved extensive product research, formulation and refinement with input from Japanese experts to ensure the product met both Japanese consumer preferences and the country's stringent food safety regulations. Japan is widely regarded as one of the most demanding markets globally for food safety compliance.
The export comes as Vietnam's domestic egg market is managing an oversupply, the result of rapid farm expansion during a period of high egg prices. The production surplus has since pushed egg prices lower, and expanding into export markets is being viewed as a route to absorb surplus supply, support poultry farmer incomes and underpin continued investment in production.
In the longer term, access to demanding export markets such as Japan is expected to encourage Vietnamese egg producers to standardise and upgrade production processes, potentially raising overall quality standards across the sector.
