Chile to export 4,000 dairy cattle to China by October 2015

In an interview with China's leading dairy publication Holstein Farmers Magazine, an official from Chile's agricultural cooperative Cooprinsem said that Chile will ship 4,000 dairy cattle to China by October 2015.

China has imported about 460,000 breeding cattle in the past six years, mainly driven by the country's growing need to secure fresh milk supply. Chile is the fifth largest exporter of live cattle to China, behind New Zealand, Australia, Uruguay and Romania.

According to Chile's International Dairy Federation, Chilean dairy farms totalled 6,500, while the country's dairy cattle herd reached 1.02 million head in 2013.
