Major UK producer 2 Sisters Food Group temporarily closes poultry plant due to COVID-19

2 Sisters Food Group, which produces a third of all UK consumed poultry products, has announced the temporary closure of its poultry plant in North Wales because of a COVID-19 outbreak, Reuters reported.

The plant located at Llangefni on the Isle of Anglesey will be closed for 14 days. All current production will be shifted to its other plants until July 2.

The plant reported its first COVID-19 case on May 28. Public Health Wales said 58 workers at the plant have tested positive for COVID-19. All workers and contractors have been instructed to quarantine for 14 days.

560 workers are employed at the 2 Sisters Food Group Llangefni plant.

COVID-19 outbreaks in the US, South America and Europe have disrupted operations and caused concern over food supply.

Toennies, a major meat processor in Germany, also reported a COVID-19 outbreak at its abattoir in north Germany. It suspended operations on June 17.
