Many seafood processing factories in Mekong River Delta's provinces dare not to sign contracts for the lack of shrimp materials for export.
Prices of exported shrimp are at highest level in the past 10 years, but now enterprises are missing a good chance to gain profit because there are not enough materials for processing.
Lam Ngoc Khuan, Director of Soc Trang Province's Phuong Nam Seafood Joint Stock Company said that although foreign partners continuously place orders, the company dare not to sign contract as it is managing to satisfy the old contracts.
Ho Quoc Luc, General Director of Sao Ta Food Processing Joint Stock Company (Fimex VN) said its factory's frozen shrimp processing capacity is 50 tonnes per day, but it can buy only 20 tonnes everyday.
"By September 2010, there are already enough shrimp materials for the factories to process," said Luc.
