More Australian pig farmers may exit business
High feed grain prices and competition from imports may cease Australian swine farmers to continue doing business with pigs.
Dr Bruce Mullan, Western Australia's Department of Agriculture and Food, said the industry stands to lose several thousand sows if the exodus continues.
He said an oversupply of pork products for the market is very likely with the influx of cheaper imports as tight profit margins will further push away pig farmers to exit from the business.
