Second case of mad cow disease in Austria
 

The Austrian government has reported a second case of mad cow disease in Vorarlberg province, after the first in December 2001.

A routine test revealed the disease in an 11-year-old cow from a small farm of seven cattle. All seven animals have been slaughtered and cremated.

The government said it was unclear how the animal became infected.
