Wisium, a Neovia international Premix/Firm-Services brand, will be launching a real-time NIR service as a portable analytical solution.
Wisium holds advanced analytical expertise thanks to the UpScience international network of laboratories. The company occupies leading roles for NIRS (Near InfraRed Spectroscopy) analyses.
Wisium is currently developing the new service for its customers, including farmers, feed manufacturers and cooperatives within and outside France. The service will allow Wisium customers to use the NIRS technology directly in the field.
The service uses a device connected to a smartphone application via Bluetooth that allows users to directly scan the product to be analysed, with results produced within a matter of seconds in the field. Traditionally, users had to carry out such analyses in a laboratory. The analyses are based on different parameters (especially dry matter, protein, fibre, starch, fat) and the results are displayed directly on-screen. The service can be used as a quick decision tool for livestock (optimising feed, improving responsiveness) and in feed plants (quality management for incoming raw materials, production line output and finished products).
The real-time NIR project is being tested in eight countries and is already supported by a database of 3,000 samples. According to Wisium, the associated computing models have shown promising results. Data collected during this trial phase and later phases will be used by Wisium experts to enrich and improve their calibration. An initial real-time NIR service will be proposed as early as September 2017.
