Crimea expects to reap one million tonnes early grain crops

Anatolii Mohylev, head of the Crimean government, told Ukrainian News that the Council of Ministers of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea anticipates harvesting one million tonnes of early grain crops in 2012, 55% less than in 2011.

"The abnormal weather conditions in winter, late April and early May have hit this year's harvest of grain crops. We'll gather in less than we did last year, appropriately one million tonnes," he noted.

At the same time Mohylev emphasised Crimean residents will not go without bread as providing the population of the region with bread needs about 300,000 tonnes of grain.

The agricultural enterprises on the peninsula began a harvest campaign on June 11.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Autonomous Republic of Crimea brought in 1,823 million tonnes of early grain crop harvest in 2011 with the average yield being 31.6 centners per hectare.
