Ukraine limits grain exports as of July 1
Ukraine's government announced Wednesday (Jun 20) it was limiting export of wheat, rye, corn and barley as of July 1 to 3,000 tonnes each until the sufficient state grain reserve is formed, according to the government press office.
The limitation concerns both the grain harvested in 2006 and this year.
The drought in the country has resulted in considerable amount of crops being damaged, and the agriculture ministry said Wednesday grain harvest this year could fall to 27 million-28 million tonnes from 34.3 million tonnes in 2006.
The ministry said wheat harvest this year was likely to fall to 11.7 million tonnes from 13.9 million tonnes last year.
