Topigs Norsvin to open artificial insemination facility in Norway

Topigs Norsvin is opening a new artificial insemination (AI) station in Norway to meet the growing demand for swine semen.

In early June, the boars are expected to move into the facility. This represents an important step in Topigs' continued development as an international supplier of swine genetics.

The AI centre will be the largest of its kind in the Nordic region.

The station will have 300 boars, with an expected annual production of 500,000 doses of semen yearly.

Approximately 340,000 doses will be bound for the Norwegian market, with the rest for export.

The AI station covers an area of 4000m2. The building is divided into four departments, and fitted with 6m2 boar bins.

The new station is an important step as the demand for high-health genetic products is increasing in the global market, Topigs says.
