Bulgarian poultry producer's subsidiary buys over production base

Bulgarian poultry producer Gradus said on June 15 that its subsidiary Millennium 2000 has acquired a new poultry production base.

The 75.4 acre complex located in the village of Cherni Vrah near the costal city of Burgas is one of the largest of its kind in Bulgaria and includes 24 land properties, 143 buildings with a total built-up area of around 80,000 square metres, over 60 production halls, and a production area of over 67,000 square metres, Gradus said in a bourse filing, without disclosing financial details of the deal and the previous owner of the complex.

Gradus has not responded to a SeeNews request for information about the previous owner by the time this article was published.

The new facility offers the technical capacity to raise over 1.4 million broilers in one production cycle, with a potential capacity of over 8 million broilers per year.

The acquisition, which represents Gradus' largest production capacity expansion in the last eight years, is part of the company's long-term strategy to expand its production capacities and increase its market presence in the chicken segment.

The poultry producer expects the investment to lead to an increase of over 50% in its chicken production capacity and to improve operational efficiency for better use of the existing production structure.

In May, Gradus said its board of directors approved a €3 million (US$3.5 million) investment project for the construction of a new broiler breeding centre at its poultry meat plant in the southern city of Stara Zagora.
