Bangladeshi ministry adviser calls for turning regional centers into research hubs to aid livestock industry

The adviser to Bangladesh's Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Farida Akhter, has called for strengthening regional centres of the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) to quell existing problems in the livestock sector.
Akhter said the regional centres should be transformed into research hubs to explore the potentialities of the sector.
The adviser came up with the observation while addressing a daylong workshop titled "Research Planning for Development of Livestock in Barind Region" on June 14. She also underscored the need for close-coordination between the works of the Department of Livestock and BLRI for attaining desired yield in this field.
Akhter added that there are enormous scopes of becoming successful entrepreneurs
through rearing and fattening cattle, goat, duck, and other poultry birds and the youths should be encouraged to join these segments.
She said the fisheries and livestock sectors are major contributors towards Bangladesh's food production, thus a need to focus on the sectors to ensure food safety for a growing population.
