Chinese shipbuilder COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry has launched a new deep-sea aquaculture platform, Gesheng No 1, which will be equipped with intelligent systems, Baird Maritime reported.

Designed by Zhuhai Gesheng Technology and compliant with China Classification Society rules, the platform is built to withstand strong winds and currents.

Upon completion, the platform will measure 86m in length, 32m in beam, 16.5m in height, and 10.5m in draught, with a capacity of 30,000 cubic metres. It will feature generators, feed storage and refrigeration equipment, automatic feeding systems, underwater surveillance cameras, and environmental monitoring systems.

Following its delivery, the platform will be positioned in the northern part of Xiaozhuzhou Island in Guishan, Zhuhai.

Its primary function will be the breeding and production of high-value species such as tuna, octopus, grouper, and catfish. The platform will utilize its environmental monitoring, data collection and analysis, network transmission, and 5G communication system to establish a new model for the intelligent deep-sea aquaculture industry.
