Iowa State University farm receives donated egg conveyor system
The Robert T. Hamilton Poultry Teaching & Research Farm of Iowa State University in the United States has received a state-of-the-art egg conveyor system donated by Lubing Systems LP.
According to Iowa State, the system ensures the safe arrival of eggs post-laying. Lubing's curve rod conveyor system provides a gentle ride for the eggs in the new farm facility. It could accommodate curves and elevation changes required to move eggs from a layer room to the farm packer. From there, the eggs are transferred onto egg trays by a packer machine before being placed in coolers by student workers.
The nearly US$7 million farm facility processes approximately 7,000 eggs per day, given the current age of the flock, said poultry farm manager Cameron Hall. According to Hall, the egg conveyor system serves as "a teaching and outreach tool, providing hands-on experience to students… by giving them a window into the care and precision the industry uses to get fresh eggs to the consumer."
Lubing explained that the donation demonstrated the company's desire to join in the development of the farm, given that it is located in Iowa, the top egg producing state in the United States.
Lubing national sales manager Mark Kleinsmith said: "Lubing Systems is an integral part of the egg industry in Iowa and the nation and provides a majority of facilities with egg conveyor systems."
