Canada's pork industry gets assistance

Provincial pork organisations in Canada are working together to create a consumer awareness programme encouraging Canadians to support domestic pork farmers and the economy by buying local pork.

The voluntary programme will be available to all retailers and processors but will primarily be aimed at larger retailers whose pork supply comes from across Canada.

The programme gives pork consumers the opportunity to choose Canadian, said Curtis Littlejohn, Chair of Ontario Pork.

The project is supported by US$1.4 million in funds, which is provided through Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Advancing Canadian Agriculture and Agri-Food program, which, in Ontario, is delivered by the Agricultural Adaptation Council.
