Vietnam culls over 1,100 ducks after bird flu outbreak in Ninh Binh province
Local authorities have launched emergency vaccination and stepped up surveillance following confirmation of avian influenza in Lai Thanh commune.
Authorities in Vietnam's Ninh Binh province have culled 1,162 ducks weighing a combined 1,744 kilogrammes after a bird flu outbreak was confirmed in Lai Thanh commune.
Ngo Xuan Quyen, Chairman of the Lai Thanh Commune People's Committee, said local authorities completed the culling of the flock, owned by resident Nguyen Van Nam, after test results confirmed infection with the avian influenza virus. The cull was carried out in accordance with animal disease control regulations.
Officials disinfected the farm, the culling site and surrounding areas to minimise the risk of further transmission. Local authorities have since launched emergency vaccination campaigns, stepped up disease surveillance and urged poultry farmers to strengthen biosecurity measures and report suspected infections promptly.
