Ho Chi Minh City to study adding poultry and eggs to commodity exchange after pork

The move forms part of a 2026-2030 traceability plan linking wholesale markets, supermarkets and collective kitchens to a national product tracking portal.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has instructed the Department of Industry and Trade to research adding poultry meat and eggs to a commodity exchange model following the planned pilot of a pork trading floor in the city.

The directive forms part of a traceability implementation plan for pork, poultry and poultry eggs covering 2026-2030, which calls for an information technology-based tracking system connected to Vietnam's National Traceability Information Portal. The plan is intended to build a systematic, transparent traceability database and strengthen oversight of product and goods quality.

The Department of Industry and Trade has been assigned to finalise the pilot pork trading floor and, alongside the Department of Food Safety, to propose solutions for introducing traceable pork, poultry and egg products meeting "Responsible Green Tick" certification criteria into collective kitchens at hospitals, schools, export processing zones and industrial parks.

The city has also instructed supermarket chains, convenience stores, and the management boards of the Binh Dien and Hoc Mon wholesale markets to adopt traceability technology, accepting only pork, poultry and egg products with complete and verifiable origin information. Unannounced inspections at warehouses and collection points will be strengthened, with strict penalties planned for commercial fraud, fraudulent use of traceability labels, and counterfeit QR codes.
