Vietnam approves Brazil swine slaughterhouse for export
Tereza Cristina, Brazil's Agriculture Minister said Vietnam has approved exports from a swine slaughterhouse in Minas Gerais state, PigProgress reported.
While Vietnam began approving Brazilian meat plants for export from 2016, only a handful of plans were granted approval. However, an African swine fever (ASF) outbreak in Vietnam has pushed the country to increase its pork imports.
Last year, Vietnam imported 125,000 tonnes of pork, and is expected to be one of the top 10 pork importing countries in the world.
Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) data showed Vietnam imported 5,900 tonnes of pork from Brazil in the first four months of this year, a 68% year-on-year increase. Last year, Vietnam imported pork cuts at 12,384 tonnes of, pig by-products at 1,155 tonnesand 400 kg of salted pig meat.
Vietnam is Brazil's 8th biggest trading partner for pork in volume and value.
Cristina said 700 agricultural facilities producing 65 agricultural products in Brazil have been approved for export to 24 countries.
