Hong Kong suspends poultry imports from Iranian province
Hong Kong has suspended imports of poultry products from the Mazandaran Province, Iran, following a World Organisation for Animal Health's (OIE) report that an outbreak of the highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza had occurred there, the Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced.
According to a CFS spokesman, Hong Kong did not receive Iranian poultry meats and eggs in 2014.
"The CFS has contacted the Iranian authorities over the issue and will closely monitor information issued by the OIE on avian influenza outbreaks in the country," the spokesman said, adding that measures will be taken in accordance to the situation.
