North Dakota's 2013 winter wheat crop declines
North Dakota's 2013 winter wheat production is forecast at 15.6 million bushels as of June 1, down 12% from the May 1 forecast and 61% below last year's record crop.
This is according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service, North Dakota Field Office.
Average yield is forecast at 46 bushels per acre, down six bushels from last month and nine bushels less than last year.
Acreage to be harvested for grain is estimated at 340,000 acres, unchanged from May 1 but down 53% from last year. This would be 97% of planted acreage.
Updated acreage estimates for hard red spring wheat and durum will be released June 28 and the first supply and demand estimates will be released in the July USDA WASDE report on July 11.
