Japan to compensate FMD damage
Japan is going to compensate farmers who suffer financial damage due to the foot-and-mouth disease, according to reports.
It is expected that the government will pay between EUR530-620 million (US$651-$761 million). Besides the compensation for farmers, additional military and police people are working to prevent further spreading of the disease.
The FMD virus affects mainly the agricultural region Miyazaki. Non-agricultural sectors such as the transport and tourism sectors are also losing money due to the outbreak. This is because tourists are avoiding the area and transport loads trucks with license plates from Miyazaki are often stopped.
